Index of Wall Paintings

Wall Paintings - These can include early decoration, from Saxon and Norman times, as well as biblical scenes from the medieval period, which were usually obscured in the Puritan era. They can also be text, particularly from the 17C, and later illustrative or purely decorative work. On this website it will also include ceiling decorations.

St Mary Chesham Dec: Wall Painting. On NW pier of tower, showing a Bishop.

1970: Wall Painting. Over the chancel Arch. 10 scenes representing Holy Week. They are actually painted on canvas. Artist was John Ward.

St Mary & Nicholas Chetwode late 13C: Painted decoration under E window. It has been overpainted at a later date.

St Thomas Colnbrook 1885: Frescoes on Chancel Walls. Artist was Wyndham Hughes.

1990s: Wall Paintings on Chancel E & N walls. Painted by the Vicar. Artist was Rev Peter Abrahams.
